A Double-Dose of Goodness
Every single time Modest Needs funds an application, I feel a great sense of joy and fulfillment -- as all of our donors do, I hope. But occasionally that good vibe intensifies when I realize that the applicant receiving the money is the kind of person anyone would want to help.
In months past, your generosity has rescued social workers, AmeriCorps teachers, military veterans, nurses, and plenty of other people whose lives and careers revolve around helping others. For these people who give so much of themselves every day, doesn't it feel especially good to be lending a hand?
This week, two particular applications fit that bill. Your generosity funded one application from a police officer injured in the line of duty. His medical bills are so overwhelming that the bank is repossessing his house. Thanks to your donations, however, he can now afford a moving van to start a new life with his wife and 13-year-old daughter.
The second, an activist for suicide prevention, is still hoping to be funded. Her $800 request will cover the emergency dental care she needs to continue speaking to young people about her own daughter's suicide in 2001. And a donation toward her well-being doesn't simply keep her healthy; it furthers the good she's doing for young adults as well.
These are just two of the many selfless, kind-hearted people who've applied for assistance from Modest Needs. And what a double-dose of goodness when your donations make it possible for us to help them get back onto their feet.
