You know that old saying that bad things happen in threes? Say... your car breaks down, your boss cuts your hours at work, your child is diagnosed with asthma all within a week. Often, it's that kind of bad-luck run that lands applicants on our website.
Call me a glass-half-full kind of guy, but what about a run of good luck? Aren't those just as common?
In all my years at Modest Needs, I've learned that good begets good more often than you might think. Hundreds of funded Modest Needs applicants have sent me emails months and years later, explaining that their Modest Needs grant served as a catalyst to set into motion a series of positive life changes. I don't know if it's karma, or fate, or psychology. But the small boost that our donors deliver to applicants doesn't end with the check we cut. That grant becomes a stepping stone, a burst of confidence, a spark of human kindness.
When I read the following testimonial, from an overjoyed mother so thrilled to be able to pay for her son's first high school dance, I couldn't help but sense the start of a chain reaction. Let's put this into perspective: We gave this woman only $70. That's it! But when a mother feels good about being able to provide for her children, to contribute to their happiness even amid a financial firestorm, that positive energy seems like it's just unstoppable.
So, to kick off November, thank you for your donations! And here's hoping that this testimonial ignites some good vibes for you, too.
"Oh my, I am SO thankful. I promised my son I would come through for him and NOW I WILL BE ABLE. I am so sick of telling him NO, we can't afford it! THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU! He is so excited and this is his first dance EVER. He is my oldest and I am SO EXCITED. Now I can buy him an outfit and pay for the date for him and get the photos to commemorate this special occasion! THANKS THANKS THANKS."
