For the past few days I've been pondering, like so many of you, the long list of things I have to be thankful for this year. And at the very top of that list is, well, YOU. Or more specifically, the donors who've not just kept Modest Needs afloat, but have kept it flourishing, and equipped to help record numbers of deserving low-income families in 2007.
On a personal level, your generosity continues to inspire me, and to challenge me to make Modest Needs as efficient and well-known as possible. But far more important, with your support thousands of hardworking people are celebrating this holiday with loved ones, in their homes, with food on the table, in better health and with the comfort of knowing that strangers will reach out when it seems like there's no one else to turn to.
Rather than hear it from me, I thought you should hear it from them. So I've pulled snippets from a few of this week's testimonials. On this day of giving thanks, remember that thousands of funded Modest Needs applicants are sitting at their tables, thanking you most of all.
"Here is a picture of my beautiful mom. Thank you for allowing me to spend her last week with her. It was too short, but it was mine, thanks to you."
"Thank you so much from the bottom of my heart for bringing independence and the ability to leave my house safely without fear of falling."
"Know that although we have never met you, we will pray for you daily and thank God for your kindness."
"How do I even begin to write a letter expressing such deep gratitude? At the moment I am reduced to tears. I guess the best thing I can do is to tell you all that you have literally saved our family from a hole deeper than you could possibly imagine."
"I was at the end of my rope, crying and wondering where my family and I would go, and you made a way... I can never tell you how much that means to me."
"All of you are a blessing. Thank you so much for your contributions and love. Now we will not be homeless."
"My prayers have been answered. The stress on my heart has been replaced with joy."
"It really means more to me than you will ever know that there is a group of people out there who cared enough about me to help when my own family has disowned me.
"As a pregnant woman and an injured cop living on the edge, your donations kept us from going under. From the bottom of our hearts, thank you, thank you, thank you!"
"There are more days that I am tempted to give up, than days I have the courage to go on. But today... today, thanks to all who donate to Modest Needs, there is hope reinforcing that I need to keep fighting for what is right, keep fighting for the chance to keep my son at home with me."
And with that, have a safe and happy holiday, everyone!
