She is a disabled registered nurse who was injured in a car accident that left her unable to work. Her husband suffers from lymphedema and Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy, which she says is, 'one of the most painful conditions known to medicine.'
Soon this couple will be traveling the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota so that he can have intensive therapy treatments in an effort to avoid amputation. If he has to have his leg amputated, the doctors say the wound will never heal.
Unfortunately, their only car is in need of serious repairs and cannot make the trip to Rochester. Without transportation, this gentleman will not be able to get the treatments he so desperately needs. It is his dream to one day work again and provide for his family, and this month-long session at the Mayo Clinic is the path to get there.
They've done everything from cut corners, clip coupons, canceled vacations and stopped giving gifts in efforts to afford the car repairs, but the bill is simply out of their reach. Which is why under our Independent Living Grant, this couple is asking for one-time assistance with car repairs so they can get the medical services required.
If investing in the life of a man with a painful disease who wants nothing more than to work sounds like a good idea to you, then please consider making a contribution to Modest Needs and using your points to vote that we fund this request. As soon as this application has 100% of the points it needs, we'll immediately remit payment to car mechanic for the full amount owed. And afterward, you'll get a thank you note, in their own words, expressing how your generosity changed their lives for the better.
